Flight Management Systems announces a new Fire Fighting Enhancement to their Moving Map system - 4 May 2007
Flight Management Systems announces a new Fire Fighting Enhancement to their Moving Map system. The new feature allows air crews to easily and quickly identify a fire perimeter without having to fly through the dangerous downwind smoke of the fire. The feature gives the crew an immediate readout of the area of the fire, and allows easy downloading of the fire footprint for evaluation and planning on the ground. This feature will be included with all new Moving Map systems. Existing customers will receive the feature, at no extra charge, with their subscription service annual updates. Flight Management Systems puts a powerful Digital Moving Map System AND a desktop computer on your cockpit FLIR screen. FMS has been producing GIS (Geographic Information Systems) based, GPS coupled, Moving Map Systems since 1999. Since inception, FMS has been using GIS data for their systems exclusively because they recognized the power and the increasing availability of data. Ortho Photo layers provide a daytime picture of the Target address so ground crews can be safely directed to positions. GIS gives the user improved accuracy, flexibility and options unavailable with conventional scanned in paper maps. The ability to display underwater features, fire footprints, and collect data on the fly for later review and debriefing are just some of the advantages. Powerful options like linking addresses to phone numbers, occupant names, and existing threat level data, (or building your own database on the fly), are available. FMS runs in a familiar Windows environment and requires minimal training. Most FO’s are comfortable with the system by the end of their first shift. FMS is compatible with any Windows based software, such as Mobile Dispatch Terminals, Weight and Balance software, and even Word processing for custom checklists. FMS provides a powerful and affordable solution. For further information, contact: Greg Taylor, Flight Management Systems
